STAFF REPORTS
Rochester lost for the 11th time on a walk off Sunday afternoon, falling 3-2 in the 11th inning in Syracuse.
The Red Wings (59-72) have now lost 10 of their last 11 games in extra innings. The Wings loaded the bases with one out in the top of the 11th but failed to score before Tuffy Gosewisch won the game with a bases loaded single off Jake Reed (0-3). Rochester finished 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position in the loss.
Jose Marmolejos opened the scoring with a bloop RBI single in the 1st off of Lewis Thorpe. That would be the only damage against Thorpe, who allowed one run on five hits and two walks with six strikeouts over 5.2 innings. He was in line for his first Triple-A win after Buxton’s two-run triple in the 5th gave the Red Wings a 2-1 advantage.
Irving Falu tied the game with a solo homer in the 8th off of Tyler Duffey.
Rochester loaded the bases with one out against Carlos Torres (4-3) after an intentional walk to Kennys Vargas before LaMonte Wade grounded into a double play to end the 11th. Gosewisch’s game-winning hit came with one out.
The Wings and Chiefs wrap up their season series on Monday at 7:05 p.m. in Syracuse. Rochester returns home on Tuesday for a doubleheader with Buffalo at 5:05 p.m.
