STAFF REPORTS

A 41-year-old Chaffee woman was charged with Unlawful Fleeing From a Police Officer 3rd, Assault 3rd, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th, Reckless Driving, and Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident on August 25, 2018 following a routine traffic stop.

According to New York State Troopers, an officer observed Cassie D. Craft travelling east bound on West Yorkshire Rd. in the Town of Yorkshire with only one headlight. Craft initially stopped on the shoulder of the roadway, but before the Trooper was able to approach her vehicle, Craft fled the scene. Craft travelled on numerous roadways before hitting a mailbox on Grove St.

The Trooper discontinued the pursuit at that time. A short time later, Cattaraugus County dispatch received a call that Craft had driven into a back yard of a home on Grove St. A neighbor went outside to see if Craft was injured and Craft attempted to flee again. The good samaritan attempted to get the keys out of the ignition, and Craft then bit him multiple times, tried to stab him with scissors, and sprayed him with a can of air conditioner aerosol. Troopers then arrived on scene and took Craft into custody.

Craft was arrested and processed at SP Machias. Craft was arraigned in the Town of Yorkshire and remanded to the Cattaraugus County Jail.
