STAFF REPORTS

Pawtucket first baseman Josh Ockimey homered and drove in three as the PawSox defeated the Bisons, 8-3, on Sunday afternoon at Coca-Cola Field. Michael Chavis added two more RBI in his torrid start with the Sox as the Herd fell to 33-34 at home this season in front of Monday night’s Fan Appreciation Night finale.
Ochimey and Chavis have been particularly tough for Herd pitchers to deal with in the series between the IL Division rivals. Ochimey homered as part of a three-hit game on Saturday night and went deep again on Sunday, launching a two-run shot into the Bully Hill Party Deck in the seventh. His RBI-single in the fifth inning was part four-run PawSox rally that put the game out of reach at 6-0.
Chavis, the Boston Red Sox top minor league prospect, got Pawtucket’s offense going again on Sunday with an RBI-single in the first inning off Herd starter Brandon Cumpton. He also singled and scored in the big fifth inning for his seventh hit in series against Buffalo, his first Triple-A games.
Buffalo’s offense had just two hits through the first five innings and didn’t get on the board until trialing 6-0 in the sixth. After Vladimir Guerrero Jr. kept the inning alive by reaching on an error, Darnell Sweeney launched an opposite field home run over the wall in left for his 10th homer of the year.
The Herd did have a chance to make some more noise down 8-2 in the eight. Michael De La Cruzbeat out an infield single to score Sweeney in the eighth. Buffalo then loaded the bases before PawSox reliever Robby Scott came on and retired Jonathan Davis on a ground out.
Cumpton suffered the loss for Buffalo to fall to 2-4 on the season. He allowed all eight Pawtucket runs in seven innings of work.
The Bisons will wrap up the 2018 season at Coca-Cola Field on Monday with the fan-favorite Fan Appreciation Night, presented by Aesthetic Associates. CLICK HERE to get your tickets and enjoy giveaways every half inning and one last fireworks show.
