No alternative text provided.BUFFALO, N.Y. — Senior Melanie Linsmair scored in the 44th minute as the Canisius women’s soccer team opened the home portion of it’s 2018 schedule with a 1-0 win over Robert Morris Friday at the Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo, N.Y.

With the win, the Golden Griffins move to 2-0-0, while the Colonials fell to 1-2-0 with the loss.

Linsmair scored her first goal of the season in the 44th minute to push Canisius to victory. The Derby, N.Y., native pushed the ball through the center of the field past two Colonial defenders before she blasted it into the right-hand corner of the net. The game-winning goal was the fifth tally of her career.  
 
Canisius junior goalkeeper Alana Rossi was credited with six saves en route to her second victory of the season. Robert Morris goalkeeper Sydney Bruckner was credited with seven saves for the Colonials. The Blue and Gold out-shot Robert Morris, 13-7, and lead the Colonials, 8-6, in shots on goal.

“Bottom line in any game, if you win you’re happy. I think it’s very satisfying to get the victory and I am very proud of the team. We looked relatively comfortable out on the field and the goal that we scored was a cracker. We’ll have a short recovery in the morning and try to turn us all around for our match with Youngstown.”

• With Friday’s win, Canisius evened its all-time series with Robert Morris at 5-5-0.
• Linsmair recorded the third game-winning goal of her career with Friday’s decisive tally.
• Rossi’s clean sheet on Friday was her first of the season and the 15th of her career.

Canisius will return to action Sunday when the team travels to Ohio to face Youngstown State. Game time is set for 1 p.m., and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
