BUFFALO — Erie County Comptroller Stefan Mychajliw said this morning that he will seek the Republican nomination in the 27th Congressional District, following Congressman Chris Collins’ announcement that he would suspend his campaign.

Collins was indicted on Wednesday on charges of securities fraud, wire fraud, and making false statements.

Mychajliw referred to the Collins situation as a “sad and difficult week for NY27,” adding that he respects Collins decision to effectively drop out of the race and thanking him for his service.

Mychajliw, in his announcement, took a jab at Democratic candidate Nate McMurray, saying his “radical views would do grave damage to our district.”

Mychajliw’s full statement – as made on Facebook – follows.
