BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Canisius women’s lacrosse team has been recognized by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) for the team’s academic success during the 2017-18 season.

The Golden Griffins were one of 95 teams to be recognized as an IWCLA Zag Sports Division I Academic Honor Squad. To qualify for the honor, a team must have posted a 3.0 or higher team GPA for the academic year. The Griffs combined for cumulative GPA of 3.24 during the 2017-18 academic year.

The Griffs also received individual honors as four players were named to the 2017-18 Zag Sports IWLCA Division I Academic Honor Roll. Seniors Erica Evans and Rebecca VanLaeken earned the award for the second straight season, while fellow senior Jen Reininger and junior Jourdan Roemer were recognized for the first time.

The IWLCA honored 429 student-athletes from 98 different institutions on the IWLCA Division I Academic Honor Roll. To be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and have earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater.

Under the guidance of first-year head coach Allison Daley, Canisius put together another successful season as the Griffs posted an 11-9 overall mark and earned a share of the MAAC Regular Season title with a 6-2 league ledger. Canisius also advanced to the title game of the MAAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship for the eighth consecutive season.
