Additionally, the finalists for the 2017-18 Canisius Male and Female Athlete of the Year Award nominees will be announced, and fans are encouraged to vote for their top choice via an online poll at GoGriffs.com. The Canisius Male and Female Athlete of the Year Award, which started at the conclusion of the 2000-01 academic year, is the highest individual honor presented to a Canisius student-athlete.

The 2017-18 academic year saw two Canisius teams, baseball and men’s lacrosse, win a MAAC Championship and secure a berth to its respective NCAA Tournament. Last year also saw two teams earn a share of a MAAC regular-season championship, as both men’s basketball and women’s lacrosse each won a conference title for their regular season efforts.

The Griffs won the 2017-18 Pepsi MAAC Men’s Commissioner’s Cup, the first in school history, and the Blue and Gold also claimed the 2017-18 Battle of the Bridge championship, the ninth-straight Canal Cup victory in the rivalry series between Canisius and Niagara.
