CANISIUS COLLEGE ATHLETICS
BUFFALO, N.Y. — total of 23 Canisius hockey student-athletes were recognized as the Atlantic Hockey Conference announced its All-Academic Team for the 2017-18 season on Monday.
Freshman David Baskerville highlighted the Golden Griffin honorees as he was named an Atlantic Hockey Student-Athlete of the Year after recording a perfect 4.0 GPA in both semesters, marking the sixth straight season and the ninth time overall that Canisius has had a student-athlete on the exclusive list.
The 23 student-athletes recognized also matched the program high, equaling the total from the 2013-14 season.
To qualify for the AHC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must post a 3.0 GPA or better in all academic semesters in which his team was actively competing.
Canisius was represented by seniors David Bennett, Josh Kielich, Jeff Murray, David Parrottino, Mike Sabatini, Ryan Schmelzer and Jack Stander as well as juniors Ian Edmondson, Joshua Gabriel, Cameron Heath, Alex Jaeckle, Jimmy Mazza, Dylan McLaughlin and Matt McLeod and sophomores Nick Hutchison,Jesse Pereira, Matt Stief, Daniel Urbani and Blake Weyrick. Baskerville and fellow freshman Matt Long,Blake Wareham and Tucker Weppner rounded out the list.
