BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Bisons were defeated by the IronPigs, 4-1, from Coca-Cola Field Saturday night. After tying the game at one in the fifth, the Herd was unable to hold off the IronPigs, who scored in each of the last three innings to seal the win.
With a 1-1 tie in the seventh, Lehigh Valley took back the lead on a sacrifice fly by Matt McBride. The lead was extended to two runs in the eighth on an RBI-double by Alexi Amarista that just got by an outstretched Jason Leblebijian at third base. Lehigh Valley then tacked on another insurance run in the top of the ninth after McBride scored on a wild pitch.
The IronPigs originally held a 1-0 lead on a fourth-inning sacrifice fly from Dean Anna, but the Bisons knotted the game up in the fifth. Tim Lopes started the frame by lacing a groundball down the third base line for a double. He eventually crossed home when Anthony Alford grounded into a double play.
The Herd worked out of an IronPigs’ threat in the sixth before allowing Lehigh Valley to break the tie the next inning. Danny Ortiz led off with a double. He almost scored on Amarista’s single but ran through a stop sign and was cut down on a one-hop strike from Dwight Smith Jr. in left field to Danny Jansen at home plate.
Conor Fisk got the starting nod for the Herd, his first of the season. His outing lasted three innings and he kept the IronPigs off the scoreboard while only surrendering three hits.
Southpaw Jose Fernandez made his Triple-A debut and tossed three innings in relief. He gave up one earned run on a sacrifice fly and struck out two batters.
