ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Red Wings beat the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders Friday evening at Frontier Field. The teams meet again Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. for Batman Night with “Gotham” star David Mazouz and Bat-fireworks after the game. 
Red Wings starting pitcher, Stephen Gonsalves, and RailRiders starting pitcher, Justus Sheffield, each allowed only one hit through the first four innings.
The RailRiders had runners on in each of the first five innings of the game. Gonsalves worked out of the innings with the help of two clutch inning-ending double plays from shortstop Gregorio Petit, in the top half of the second and third inning.
The Red Wings scored first in the bottom half of the fifth inning after a three-run home run by Byron Buxton, which scored Zack Granite and Petit, making the score 3-0.
Gonsalves was relieved in the top of the sixth by Jake Reed. Gonsalves finished with 5.0 innings thrown, allowed two hits, five walks and one strikeout. Gonsalves threw 91 pitches, 49 for strikes.
John Curtiss relieved Reed with the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the seventh. Curtiss ended the inning with a groundout. Reed finished with 1.2 innings thrown, allowed one hit, two walks and two strikeouts.
Sheffield was relieved in the bottom of the seventh by Tommy Kahnle. Sheffield finished with 6.0 innings thrown, allowed five hits, three earned runs, two walks and seven strikeouts. Sheffield finished with 96 pitches thrown, 65 for strikes.
The RailRiders shortened the deficit in the top of the eighth inning after a groundball in the infield scored Tyler Austin from third, making the score 3-1.
Brady Lail relieved Kahnle in the bottom of the eighth inning. Kahnle finished with 1.0 innings thrown with three strikeouts.
Buxton went 1-for-4 with the homer and two strikeouts as part of his rehab assignment from the Twins.
The Red Wings out-hit the RailRiders 6-4.
