PRESS RELEASE

A 23 year old Buffalo man was charged with Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 1st Degree, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle 3rd Degree, and numerous traffic violations on June 12, 2018 following a high speed pursuit.

According to New York State Troopers, at 2:25 p.m., officers had an LPR plate reader hit on a 2003 Honda, operated by Christopher J. Matyjakowski traveling on Lincoln Avenue in the town of Lockport. Troopers initiated a vehicle and traffic stop.  The suspect vehicle failed to comply and a pursuit was initiated.  During the pursuit a “cloud of money” was thrown out the window of the suspect vehicle. The Honda attempted to turn on Bunker Hill Road and left the roadway causing the vehicle to roll over. The Matyjakowski ran from the scene to an unknown location. NYSP UAS (Drone) and K9 (bloodhound Paris) and the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office Aviation unit responded.  The K9 was able to track Matyjakowski to a residence on Bunker Hill Road.  Once permission to search the residence was obtained, Matyjakowski was located.

Matyjakowski was taken to Erie County Medical Center for collision related injuries.  Matyjakowski was in possession of counter fit, U.S. one hundred-dollar bills.  The Counter fit currency was located and collected on State Road.

Matyjakowski was taken from ECMC to SP Niagara for processing.  Matyjakowski was arraigned at the town of Royalton Court and remanded to the Niagara County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash/10,000 bond bail.

Niagara County Sheriff’s Office assisted in this incident.
