The Red Wings ace that won all four games he started against the Herd in 2017 had more of the same for the Bisons on Tuesday night at Coca-Cola Field. The righty allowed just one run over seven innings to lead Rochester to the 2-1 victory.
Slegers allowed just four this and a walk while striking out five to improve to 3-1 on the season. He faced just three over the minimum through his seven innings of work, erasing two of the Bisons base runners with doubleplay balls. He also retired 10 in a row at one point.
The only Bisons batter that could solve the Rochester righty was Danny Jansen. The Herd backstop singled in the second and seventh inning and plated Buffalo’s lone run in the fourth with an RBI-groundout.
Joe Biagini started for the Bisons and suffered his third defeat of the season. The righty allowed two runs on four hits with four strikeouts over six innings. He issued three walks, all of them to third baseman Jermaine Curtis.
Rochester scored their two runs in back-to-back innings in the fourth and fifth. Kennys Vargas got the Red Wings on the board in the fourth with a sacrifice fly. In the next frame, Williams Astudillo and James Ramsey each doubled to produce the eventual game-winning run.
The Bisons will look to avoid the sweep on Wednesday afternoon with a 1:05 p.m. first pitch against the Red Wings at Coca-Cola Field.
