AMITY — A 64-year-old Amity man is facing charges of animal cruelty after New York State Police responded to a tip of a man shooting a dog.

According to NYSP, Troopers responded to Stryker Road on Sunday for a report of a dog being shot. Further investigation revealed that Marvin L. Wells had “shot a canine for no legitimate purpose with a firearm.”

Wells was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, a class E felony. He is due in Amity Court on May 2.
