The Canisius men’s lacrosse team hosts Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opponent Manhattan in a 4 p.m. matinee Friday at the Demske Sports Complex.

 
The Golden Griffins can clinch a berth to the 2018 MAAC Men’s Lacrosse Championship with a victory over the Jaspers on Friday.
 

Scouting Canisius
• The Golden Griffins (5-7, 2-2 MAAC) enter Friday’s matchup looking to halt a losing skid that stands after three games following a 19-14 setback at league-leading Quinnipiac last Saturday.
• Senior Connor Kearnan has been one of the best offensive players in the country this season as the attacker ranks among the top 10 players in the nation in both assists (3.08/6th) and points (5.17/9th) per game.
• Sophomore Mathieu Boissonneault leads the team with 30 goals scored and is second on the team in points with 38. Boissonneault has recorded multiple goals in 10 of 12 games played this season.
• Senior Steven Coss is third on the team’s scoring chart with 37 points. Coss, who has 18 goals and 19 assists to his credit this season, matched his career high with three assists at Quinnipiac on Saturday.
• Sophomore Reece Eddy highlights the team’s defensive efforts, posting team highs of 59 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers. Eddy has also chipped in offensively, recording three goals and one assist.  
• Senior Liam Ganzhorn has started all 12 games in goal for the Griffs this season. He has posted a 13.60 goals against average and a .429 save percentage in 692 minutes of action this season.
• Canisius has been one of the more efficient shooting teams in the country as it enters Friday’s matchup with Manhattan ranked fifth in the nation in shooting percentage (.361). The Griffs shot better than 40 percent from the field for the fourth time this season in its matchup with the Bobcats on Saturday (.412).
 
Canisius Falls at League-Leading Quinnipiac on Saturday
• League-leading Quinnipiac capitalized on a pair of lengthy scoring runs to defeat Canisius, 19-14, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men’s lacrosse action April 14 at the Quinnipiac Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium in Hamden, Conn.
• Sophomore Mathieu Boissonneault tallied four goals and added an assist while senior Connor Kearnan pitched in three goals and two assists for the Golden Griffins.
• Senior Steven Coss added four points, recording one goal and three assists.
• Canisius recorded three or more man-up goals for just the second time this season as it was a perfect 4-for-4 in man-up situations.
• Senior Connor Kearnan tallied five or more points in a game for the seventh time this season with his five-point effort on Saturday.
• With his five points on Saturday, Kearnan moved into a tie with Ned Franz for eighth place on the program’s single-season points list with 62.
• With his two assists on Saturday, Kearnan moved into a tie for seventh place on the program’s career assists chart with 75.
• Boissonneault notched his fourth hat trick of the season with his four-goal effort on Saturday. He becomes the first Canisius player to reach the 30-goal plateau this season.
• Sophomore Holden Garlent recorded his first career goal with his tally during the first quarter on Saturday.
• Senior Steven Coss recorded three or more assists for the third time this season as he recorded three helpers on Saturday.
 
Scouting Manhattan
• The Jaspers (4-8, 0-4 MAAC) heads into Friday’s contest looking to pick up its first conference victory of the season after suffering an 18-8 setback at Detroit Mercy on Saturday.
• Parker Giarratana has been the focal point of the Manhattan attack, leading the team in goals (19), assists (18) and points (37).
• Luke Hanson is second on the team in scoring with 27 points as he is second on the squad in both goals (13) and assists (14).
• Michael Zingaro has started 11-of-12 games in goal for the Jaspers. He hold a 10.63 goals against average and a .532 save percentage in 611 minutes of action.
 
Canisius-Manhattan Series Notes
• The Griffs own a convincing 19-4 advantage in the all-time series against the Jaspers.
• Canisius has won the last 11 meetings versus Manhattan, dating back to the 2008 season. The Jaspers have not defeated the Griffs since a 13-6 win in 2007.
• Canisius has won all 10 games against Manhattan at the Demske Sports Complex, including their most recent matchup, a 13-11 come-from-behind victory on April 9, 2016.
• Last season, the Griffs posted a 12-10 victory over the Jaspers last March at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, N.Y., as Canisius scored six unanswered goals in the third quarter to take the lead and held off a late rally to record the two-goal victory.
