NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. — Canisius rolls to a 11-0 victory over Iona Sunday afternoon at City Park in New Rochelle, N.Y. With the win, the Golden Griffins sweep the three-game series, improving to 20-11 overall and 9-3 in the MAAC, where as the Gaels drop to 8-23 on the season and 3-8 in conference play.
The Blue and Gold came out swinging in the top of the first as they posted six runs on three hits and two hits, forcing Iona to change its starting pitcher after only recording one out. In the frame, senior Liam Wilson kicked things off with a RBI double to left field to plate juniorMark McKenna. Wilson and redshirt senior Christ Conley scored a short time later on back-to-back wild pitches. Junior Conner Morro smashed a two-run single to left center and freshman Jacob Martins knocked in Morro to end the half-inning leading 6-0.
Canisius tallied another run in the top of the fourth on a RBI single by senior Gage Lanning to increase its lead to 7-0.
The Griffs added more runs in the seventh and the eighth innings on a single by senior Cyrus Senior, a RBI groundout by senior Nick Capitano, a sacrifice fly by junior Canice Ejoh and a fielding error on senior JoesphPreziuso‘s at-bat to earn the 11-0 win.
Junior right-hander Andrew Sipowicz got the starting nod on the mound for the Golden Griffins. The Buffalo, N.Y., native, put in six innings of work, only allowing a single hit, while striking out three. Sophomore Kyle Warner and junior Alvin Vega came out of the bullpen, each pitching one inning, surrendering two bases runners and five strikeouts between the two of them.
Iona sent senior right-hander Patrick Ryan to hill, who faced seven batters and was only able to record one out before getting pulled. Sophomore righty Stephen Hansen was called into action for the next 5.2 innings, scattering five hits, allowing one run, whilst fanning three batters and walking the same. Three more Gaels’ relievers entered the game, throwing one inning apiece to finish out the game.
GAME NOTES
• With his one hit on Sunday, Wilson has reached base in all 31 games this season and 33 times in his last 34 games dating back to last year. Wilson’s streak also includes an on-going 15 game hitting streak.
• Conley’s on-base streak now stands at 21 straight games with his two walks on Sunday However, he snaps his 12-consecutive game hit streak.
• Morro and continued his now 14-game consecutive on-base streak with two hits on Sunday.
• McKenna’s consecutive game on-base streak has now reached the 10-game plateu with a hit by pitch Sunday.
• Stekl has now appeared in 205 career games, tying him for seventh all-time in school history with Brian Burton (’11).

The Griffs return back to the Buffalo to begin a five-game home stand at the Demske Sports Complex. First up is “Battle of the Bridge” rival Niagara on April. 17 for a single-game. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
