 LAST TIME OUT
• Senior Jen Reininger tallied the go-ahead goal with 3:31 remaining in the second overtime period to lift the Canisius women’s lacrosse program over Iona, 10-9 in New Rochelle, N.Y. 

• With the win the Golden Griffins improved to 5-5 overall and 2-0 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play, while Iona dropped to 5-6 and 0-2 in conference action.

• The Griffs used a four-goal run beginning at the 13:00 minute mark in the second half to help erase the Iona lead and force the extra time.

• Junior Jourdan Roemer got the run started tallying her 24th of the season on a free position, before sophomoreBryar Cummings and Reininger followed suit to cut the Iona lead to one.

• Roemer capped the streak and tied things up with 3:20 left in regulation, to tie the game up for the first time since the game began.

• Senior goalie Rebecca VanLaeken was big down the stretch for the Blue and Gold as she recorded five saves between the two overtime periods to keep Canisius in the contest.

• Roemer recorded a season-best six points in the win, notching five goals and one assist. Her lone helper came on the overtime go-ahead goal.

• Reininger finished the game with four goals, while Cummings recorded a goal and Lauren Smolenksy notched an assist.

 • VanLaeken earned her fifth win of the season, tallying 16 saves and allowing nine goals, while the Gael’s Shannon McCaffery made 11 saves and allowed 10 goals in the loss.

• Iona outshot the Griffs 34-29 for the game, while the Blue and Gold controlled the draw circle, outdrawing the Gaels 15-7.

SCOUTING CANISIUS
• The Golden Griffins (5-5) continue their MAAC season on Wednesday as the team heads to Siena for an afternoon matinee. Game time is set for 4 p.m. 

• Canisius enters the game with a 5-5 overall record and a 2-0 conference mark. 

• The month of March has been a strong one for the Griffs as the team went 5-2 during the third month of the year. 

• Canisius has been led offensively by Jourdan Roemer, who comes into the contest with 40 points (25 goals and 15 assists). 

• Not far behind is the team’s leading goal scorer, Jen Reininger, who has 34 points with 29  goals and five assists. 

• The Blue and Gold have also received goal scoring from Allie Stewart (12 goals), Lauren Smolenksy (four goals and eight assists) and Bryar Cummings (eight goals and one assist) 

• Marissa Malvaso and Miranda Malvaso have continued to get stronger with each game, as the freshmen have been strong complimentary pieces in their first year.

• Marissa Malvaso has tallied seven goals and two assists, while Miranda Malvaso has tallied three goals. 
• Reininger, aside from goal scoring, has been all over the stat sheet, leading the team in ground balls with 41, draw controls with 59 and caused turnovers with 19.

• Reininger is ranked fourth in the nation in ground balls with a 4.00 average. 
• Rebecca VanLaeken has been one of the nation’s best goaltenders, ranking first in the country in saves per game with a 12.50 mark. She has a 5-5 record this season with a 11.86 goals against average and a .510 save percentage.

SCOUTING SIENA
• The Saints come into the contest with a 4-6 overall record and an 0-1 conference mark.

• Most recently the Saints fell to an opponent that the Blue and Gold bested in 2018, succumbing to defeat to Bryant, 20-5.

• Siena comes into the contest looking to snap a three-game losing streak, losing its MAAC opener to Fairfield, 18-8, and to UMBC 13-3.

• The team is averaging 10 goals a game but the defense is allowing opponents to average 14 goals-against through its 10 contests

• Alexis Deaken has been a revelation for the Saints, ranking second in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference with 41 points, including 34 goals. She leads the team in both categories.

• Deaken is also ranked first in the conference in points per game, averaging 4.1 points per match-up so far in 2018. 

• Kerry Gerrety has also posted over 20 points for Siena, coming into the game with 20 goals and eight assists. 

• Gerrety and Deaken rank at the top of the leaderboard when it comes to draw controls, having tallied 33 and 30, respectively.

• Deaken also leads the team in ground balls with 23 and caused turnovers with seven.

• Sammy Horton has been the only Saints goalkeeper that has seen action, starting in all six games and coming into Wednesday’s game with a 14.16 goals against average and a .411 save percentage. 

SERIES HISTORY VS. SIENA 
• Wednesday’s game will be the 21st time the Saints and Griffs have matched up in the series history, with Canisius holding a 14-6 edge.

• Canisius has a decided advantage when playing at the Demske Sports Complex, with an 8-2 record, while Siena has fared better in Loudonville, N.Y., with an even 4-4 mark.

• The teams have tangled twice in the MAAC tournament, with Canisius holding a 2-0 advantage.

• The series took a drastic turn in the Blue and Gold’s favor over the last decade-or-so, as the Griffs have won the last 11 games against the Saints. 

• The last time Canisius fell to Siena was in 2007, when the Saints bested the Griffs 12-8 in Loudonville, N.Y. 

REINGINGER EARNS OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK 
• Senior Jen Reininger had one of her best weeks as a Golden Griffin, finishing a two-game set against No. 7 Virginia and Iona, with eight points (seven goals and one assist), 21 draw controls, nine ground balls and five turnovers.

• With her effort Reininger earned her first ever offensive player of the week award from the MAAC.

• The highlight of Reininger’s week came in the week’s finale, as she scored a dramatic 2OT go-ahead goal to help Canisius stay undefeated in MAAC play, 2-0.

• The goal helped cap a four-goal comeback that started with 13 minutes remaining in regulation time.
