BUFFALO — Jack Eichel and Ryan O’Reilly put the Buffalo Sabres up 2-0 in the first period over the visiting Detroit Red Wings. But that lead was short lived.

Detroit’s Dylan Larkin closed the gap from two goals to just one a mere 30 seconds after O’Reilly’s goal.

Darren Helm tied the game for the Wings at 5:21 of the second period and it was all downhill from there, aside from a goal by Evan Rodriquez at 4:51 of the third period to draw Buffalo back to within one goal.

The Sabres next take on the Nashville Predators in Nashville at 8 p.m. Saturday in Nashville.
