BUFFALO, N.Y. — For the first time in her Buffalo career, senior guard Katherine Ups was named Mid-American Conference Scholar Athlete of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon. Ups helped lead the Bulls to their first ever Sweet 16 while also maintaining a 3.923 GPA while studying biomedical sciences.
Senior Katherine Ups helped lead the Bulls to the best season in school history, capped off with the school’s first ever appearance in the Sweet 16. Ups started all three games in the NCAA Tournament, including in 20-point wins over South Florida and Florida State. Most recently, Ups picked up the start on Saturday in the Sweet Sixteen game against the defending national champions, South Carolina. Against one of the top teams in the SEC, Ups finished with two steals and pestered a Gamecock offense into 26 turnovers, their highest total of the year. The Bulls finished the year with a school-record 29 wins.
The vocal leader of the Bulls closed out her successful senior campaign averaging a career-best 7.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists while starting 34 games during UB’s historic campaign. For her career, Ups appeared in 118 games, ranking eighth all-time, while racking up 551 points, 415 rebounds and 159 career assists.
