BUFFALO — St. Joseph Cathedral, 50 Franklin St., has numerous events planned for Holy Week, beginning with a Vigil Mass for Palm Sunday at 4:30 pm. Saturday and a Mass of the Lord’s Passion at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, which will include a blessing of the palms by Bishop Richard J. Malone.


Other events include:  

Tuesday, March 27 – Chrism Mass

7 p.m. – Bishop Malone, celebrant, will bless three urns of oil, the oil of catechumens, used to bless those who are about to be baptized; the oil of chrism that is used in the Sacrament of Baptism, the Sacrament of Confirmation and the Sacrament of Holy Orders; and the oil of the sick which is used in the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick.  Priests and deacons from throughout the diocese will take the oil to their parishes for use throughout the year.  All priests are invited to concelebrate. 

Thursday, March 29 – Holy Thursday

7 p.m. – Mass of the Lord’s Supper; Bishop Malone, celebrant
Adoration until 10 p.m. in the Lady Chapel

Friday, March 30 – Good Friday

7:30 a.m. – Morning Prayer, Bishop Malone, presider

Noon – Celebration of the Lord’s Passion; Bishop Malone, celebrant

Saturday, March 31 – Holy Saturday

7:30 a.m. – Morning Prayer, Bishop Malone, presider
8 p.m. – Easter Vigil; Bishop Malone, celebrant

Sunday, April 1 – Easter Sunday

8 a.m. – Mass for Easter
10:30 a.m. – Solemn Mass for Easter
