Freedom of Information (FOI) Day is an annual event celebrated March 16, the birthday of James Madison, who is widely regarded as the Father of the Constitution and as the foremost advocate for openness in government.

Radio talk show host Jim Bohannon created National Freedom of Information Day, which has since grown into “Sunshine Week,” highlighting government openness and the press’ role in pushing for that openness.
