CANISIUS COLLEGE ATHLETICS
The Canisius women’s basketball team forced 20 Manhattan turnovers but were unable to convert those into points, as the Golden Griffins fell to the Jaspers, 58-39 at Draddy Gymnasium, Thursday morning. With the loss Canisius dropped to 3-11 and 1-2 in MAAC play, while Manhattan improved to 5-9 and 2-1 in conference action.
Offense was hard to come by as the Griffs shot just 26 percent (15-of-57) for the game, meanwhile Manhattan proved to be more efficient, hitting 43 percent (21-48) from the field.
The Jaspers limited Canisius to just four points in the second quarter which dug the Blue and Gold a hole it never pulled itself out of.
Margret Halfdanardottir paced the team on offense, recording 12 points for the game. Unfortunately the secondary scoring dried up for the Blue and Gold as next highest scorer for the Blue and Gold was Sara Hinriksdottir with six points.
Freshman Anndea Zeigler made the first start of her collegiate career and finished 1-of-5 from the floor and 1-of-2 from the charity stripe, for three points, and added three rebounds and one assist.
Manhattan was led by Amani Tatum who scored a game-high 13 points, meanwhile Lizahya Morgan also hit double-figures with 10 points. Courtney Warley nearly completed the double-double, coming down with 11 rebounds and scoring seven points.
Aside from the shooting disparity, Canisius held its own when it came to turnovers, forcing 20 for the Jaspers and giving it away just 10 times in the contest. Manhattan did dominate the glass however, winning the rebounding battle 44-30.
GAME NOTES
• With the loss Canisius’ all-time lead over Manhattan was cut to 33-28.
• The Jaspers now hold a 17-11 advantage at Draddy Gymnasium all-time against Canisius.
• The 20 turnovers by Manhattan is an opponent high for the season, meanwhile the team tallied eight steals which is the second-highest single game total for the season.

Canisius finishes up its busy week at Rider on Sunday, as the team takes on the Broncs in Lawrenceville, N.J., at 2 p.m. Canisius will return home on Thursday for a pair of home contests, hosting the Jaspers on Jan. 11 and Siena on Jan. 13. Game times for the home games are set for 7 p.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
