FAIRFIELD, Conn.- The Purple Eagles’ win streak was halted at three games with an overtime loss to Fairfield, 59-53, on Tuesday in their first game of 2018.

Game Recap

  • The Purple Eagles came out strong in the first quarter. With a little over eight and half minutes left in the quarter, Maggie McIntyre sank a three to put NU up, 5-0. Eight points from Jai Moore in the first quarter helped the Purple Eagles to a 17-12 lead over the Stags at the end of the first.
  • The Stags came back to tie the score, 21-21, with about six and a half minutes left in the first half and would tie it again, 23-23, with a little over five and a half minutes left. The Purple Eagles, however, picked up momentum on offense, going on a 9-0 run to close out the quarter, which included four points from Rampado and a 3-pointer from Morgan Baughman. Niagara led the Stags, 32-23, going into halftime.
  • The third quarter was a defensive battle between the Purple Eagles and the Stags. Rampado led the team with six points in the third frame, helping to keep NU in the lead, 43-36, going into the final quarter.
  • The Stags caught up to the Purple Eagles in the fourth quarter and took their first lead of the game, 49-48, with about four minutes remaining in the quarter. NU and Fairfield traded baskets for the remainder of the quarter and were tied, 51-51, at the end of the fourth to force the game into overtime.
  • Stroemple scored the Purple Eagles’ only points in overtime as Niagara fell to the Stags, 59-53.


Inside the Numbers

  • Rampado led the Purple Eagles in scoring with 15 points and also had a team-high 15 rebounds to tie her career-high, recording her MAAC-leading sixth double-double of the season.
  • Stroemple recorded her second double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Moore also scored in double figures; she had 10 points to tie her season-high for the fourth time this season. She also had a career-high six rebounds and a career-high four steals.
