STAFF REPORTS
With influenza now prevalent in our community, UR Medicine is taking the following steps to help limit the spread and best protect patients and staff at Strong Memorial Hospital, Highland Hospital, Golisano Children’s Hospital, and Wilmot Cancer Center:
-A maximum of two visitors plus one care giver in a patient’s room at any time. -No visitors under the age of 14.
-People with flu-like symptoms (e.g., fever, cough, sore throat, body aches) are asked not to visit hospitalized patients until they are symptom-free for 24 hours.
“Flu can be especially dangerous for hospitalized patients with underlying illnesses,” said Paul Graman, M.D., hospital epidemiologist and clinical director of the Infectious Diseases Division at Strong. “During flu season, we need the community’s help in keeping influenza out of the hospital.”
These precautionary measures will go into effect at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, January 3.
Family members who have questions about visiting their loved one at these UR Medicine hospitals should speak with the patient’s nurse or call Strong Memorial Hospital’s Infection Prevention office at 585-275-7716.
