NIAGARA UNIV. — Marvin Prochet led all scorers with a season-high 21 points as the Niagara Purple Eagles fell to the Rider Broncs, 99-76, on Sunday to close out the 2017 calendar.

The Broncs opened the game on a 12-0 run which led to a lineup change for the Purple Eagles.  The new unit of James Towns, Chris Barton, Kevin Larkin, Greg Kuakumensah and Greg King outscored Rider 15-6 in seven minutes as NU trailed 22-15 with 9:46 left in the half.  A Kahlil Dukes’ 3-pointer with 7:36 remaining trimmed the deficit to, 24-22. However, Rider responded with an 8-1 run and went into the half leading 42-34.

In the opening minute of the second half, Prochet provided four points to cut the lead to 44-38, but a 10-2 run pushed Rider’s lead to 14 points. The Broncs, who led as many as 27 points, maintained a double-digit lead for the rest of the game.

In his last five games, Marvin Prochet has averaged 15.6 points while shooting 59 percent from the field and 9.6 rebounds.

Matt Scott, who entered the game sixth in the nation in scoring, did not reach double figures (five points) for the first time this season.

Niagara tied a season-high in free throws made with 24.

The Purple Eagles start their MAAC road schedule at 7 p.m. Friday at Siena. The game will air on the Niagara Sports Network via AM 1400 WWWS and PurpleEagles.com/Watch.
