AMHERST TIMES

Shawn Lavin is not a normal candidate.  He is a father and a solider who has sworn on his honor that he will be a Town Board member who will not be influenced by party leaders on how he will vote on things which will affect Amherst in any negative way.
I sat down with Mr. Lavin for 2 hours discussing his feelings and ideas for Amherst. I asked him who or what might affect which way he would vote on things like the Westwood problem, the old sewer pipes, drainage and several more serious problems like our Waste Water Treatment plant and the Amherst sewer system.  Shawn said he would vote what would be best for the people of Amherst.

Shawn, being an officer in our Air Force reserve, knows how to think about people first.  As a Town Board member the people of Amherst will be his first concern.  The citizens of Amherst who pay outrageous taxes, must not to be ignored as they are now by the present Town Board.  I have attended town board meetings and heard our citizens, my neighbors, asking for help.  The Town Board members do not pay any attention to their needs. This Town Board has said YES to developers over 92% of the time.  The pleas of the people must be listened to and acted on.

There is a desperate need to change this mentally before Amherst becomes a collection of tall buildings, hotels and apartment buildings. When residents ask the Town Board for help the Board members will not respond to them but might send a letter with the Town’s response.  He said he will try hard to stop this practice.  He would like to see Town Board members respond if they know the answer.  If not they should commit to contact with the resident by phone within 2 days.

Shawn said his love of nature and his desire to keep Amherst as green as possible is one of his utmost concerns.  He wants the Planning Board to be overhauled as well as all the Departments in our local government.  People will be hired as to their ability not who they are related to.

I believe Shawn Lavin was sincere and honest therefore I will vote for him.  I believe he will make a difference in Amherst’s future.
