CANISIUS COLLEGE ATHLETICS

The Canisius women’s lacrosse program announced its 2017 fall schedule on Wednesday, highlighted by a home tournament, as well as four road tournaments. The Golden Griffins will travel to Cornell, Syracuse, Niagara and Loyola and will host the Purple Eagles and Mercyhurst.

“We’re excited to begin our fall schedule,” head coach Scott Teeter said. “Getting a chance to play this level of competition will prepare us to get better and grow as a team and sharpen our skills before we enter our 2018 season. I know our team is anxious to get out there and play and we are ready for the challenge that this fall schedule brings.”

The Griffs begin the fall campaign with its own home tournament, Monday, Sept. 18. Canisius welcomes rival Niagara and Mercyhurst for a round-robin multi-contest tournament. The action begins at 5 p.m.

Canisius’ schedule continues on Sept. 13 with a tournament at Cornell, as the Blue and Gold will square off with the Big Red and Delaware. On Sept. 30 the Griffs play at Syracuse in its fall ball tournament. In October, the Blue and Gold play at Niagara on Oct. 15 and at Loyola, on Oct. 22, to round out its fall schedule. At the Loyola tournament, Canisius will take on the Blue Hens one more time and 2017 opponent, Oregon.

Canisius continued its trend of dominance in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, winning its sixth MAAC title in program history in 2017, and securing its second-straight championship. Canisius went 15-5 overall and a perfect 8-0 in conference play. Canisius had nine members earn All-MAAC honors, highlighted by Erica Evans, who was named the 2017 MAAC Midfielder of the Year, and Teeter earned his fourth coach of the year honor, having won the award three-straight seasons.
