HOUGHTON — Lauren Hansen (Blue Point/Bayport Blue Point) had a season-best 19 kills as Buffalo State avenged an opening weekend loss with a four-set victory tonight at Houghton in a non-conference contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Buffalo State jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the first set before trailing 22-15, but the Bengals mounted a furious late rally to take the opening set, 26-24.
Houghton scored the final four points of the second set to claim a 25-23 win.  Buffalo State responded to win the first eight points of the third set and despite a 7-0 answer by the Highlanders, the Bengals prevailed, 25-21.
Buffalo State sealed the win with a 25-23 win in the fourth set.
Eimile O’Brien (Marietta/Marcellus) added 11 kills to go with eight blocks.
Alyssa Durski (Eden/Eden) tallied 31 assists and 19 digs.
Both teams struggled to get their offenses in gear as the Bengals posted an attack percentage of 7 percent, while Houghton hit at a 6-percent clip.  Houghton also added 11 service errors.
Buffalo State had a 10-6 advantage in blocks.

FOR THE FOES
Naomi Prentice had 16 kills and Anna Coryell added 32 assists.

UP NEXT
Buffalo State will host the six-team Bengal Challenge this weekend in Houston Gym.  The Bengals will open on Friday against the University of Rochester at 5 p.m.
