STAFF REPORTS

The Rochester Red Wings recorded just five hits and fell to the Durham Bulls 5-1 Wednesday night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Yohan Pino (0-1) made his return to the Red Wings (23-24), his third stint with the team and first appearance since 2014, and allowed three runs on six hits with eight strikeouts over 5.2 innings.

The Wings tallied just five hits against Bulls (31-20) starter Blake Snell (2-0), regarded as one of the top Tampa Bay pitching prospects. Rochester’s offense is just 7-for-53 in the last two games.

Durham got on the board in the 2nd as Shane Peterson hit a two-run home run off Pino giving the Bulls a 2-0 lead. The Red Wings had runners at second and third with two outs in the top of the frame but were unable to cash in.

Rochester would get on the board in the 4th as Kennys Vargas doubled with one out and advanced to third on a wild pitch before scoring on a Tommy Field sacrifice fly. The Wings again had runners at second and third with two outs but a strikeout ended the opportunity.

The Bulls added to their lead in the 5th as Johnny Field doubled in a run with two outs to make it 3-1.

Adam Wilk made his Red Wings debut in the 6th, retiring the final batter of the inning after Pino got the first two outs of the frame. Durham loaded the bases with one out in the 7th before Willy Adames’ two-run single with two outs off Wilk made it 5-1.
