CANISIUS COLLEGE ATHLETICS

NIAGARA FALLS — Canisius redshirt-junior Michael Ginther and junior Gage Lanning were named to the 2017 MAAC LifeStorage Baseball Championship All-Tournament Team, announced Saturday evening after Marist won the MAAC Championship game at Sal Maglie Stadium.

Ginther made two appearances on the hill for the Golden Griffins during the tournament, where he threw 5.1 innings of relief and allowed one run on four hits to go with three strikeouts and two walks. In the team’s season-ending loss to Iona May 26, the West Middlesex, Pa., native threw a season-high 4.1 innings of scoreless relief.

Lanning hit .357 (5-for-14) with two home runs, two doubles, three RBI and three runs scored for the Griffs in three games. He was the only player in the six-team field to have multiple homers for the tournament, and his two doubles in the loss to Marist May 24 were his first two two-base hits of the season.

Canisius finished the year with an overall record of 35-22 to go with a 16-8 mark in MAAC play. Canisius advanced to its 11th-straight MAAC Baseball Championship appearance, the longest active streak among the league’s 11 schools.
