BATAVIA — With an eye in the sky, more than 200 Genesee Community College faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends braved a spring chill and overcast skies to celebrate the College’s 50th Anniversary, bringing to life the golden number by forming a human 50 as part of a short video shot using drone technology. The flyover includes an aerial look at the College’s expanding Batavia campus, including the nearly-completed Student Success Center and Richard C. Call Arena, and interaction with the human 50 which was stationed on the East Lawn.

“It’s an incredible view of our stellar facilities and a rare vantage point,” said Dr. James Sunser, GCC President, who took part in forming the human 50. “We didn’t have the greatest weather, but we persevered and enjoyed celebrating the College’s 50th anniversary with another event.”

Shot and produced by Morgan Joanna Films of Albion, the 2:05 second video takes a behind the scenes journey through the coordination of the human 5 0 display and shows a birds eye view of the main campus buildings, the iconic clock tower, state-of-the-art athletics turf field, baseball diamond, and an in-progress softball game during the Region III Division III Softball Championships which were held at the College on May 4, 2017.

The video can be viewed on the College’s homepage website, www.genesee.edu, or on the 50th Anniversary website, http://sunygcc50.genesee.edu. See if you can spot someone you know or try to find “G-Dub,” the College’s cougar mascot!

GCC will continue to celebrate its 50th Anniversary with upcoming special events that include Convocation, which will take place on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at 1 p.m., and Fall Fest during Homecoming weekend September 22 – 23, 2017. The third annual Cougar Crawl kicks off Fall Fest and the public is invited to join the walk about downtown Batavia with stops at local establishments for food, beverages and discount specials largely featuring GCC alumni businesses.
