BATAVIA — A pair of Orleans County Sheriff’s Office deputies are facing charges of grand larceny and falsifying business records.

According to information from the New York State Police, an investigation conducted by the New York State Police Major Crimes unit revealed that between November 2013 and January 2015, Sergeant Dean Covis of Albion and Deputy Thomas Marano of Brockport received payments from a private company they worked security for, after filing false time sheets, when in fact they were simultaneously working at the Orleans County Sheriff’s Office.

Genesee County District Attorney Lawrence Friedman has been assigned as a Special Prosecutor in this matter. Covis and Marano were arraigned before Niagara County Court Judge, Honorable Sara Sheldon in the Orleans County Court and were released on their own recognizance.
