PRESS RELEASE
LOCKPORT — Niagara County lawmakers will take up a last-minute resolution tonight to appropriate $35,000 for a proposed helicopter stunt that would feature the wife of daredevil Nik Wallenda.
Under Erendira Wallenda’s proposed display, she would hang suspended—by her teeth—from a helicopter flying over the world-famous falls.
The late funding resolution is attached in PDF format, and is expected to pass.
Majority Leader Randy R. Bradt, R-North Tonawanda, who helped author the resolution, said, “Nik Wallenda’s 2012 walk captured a billion people around the world’s imagination, and moreover, generated an economic impact estimated at $21.5 million, with $3.3 million in direct revenues to the City of Niagara Falls. Plus, our tourism industry received a massive shot in the arm, with hotel bookings elevated for weeks after. We want to recapture that energy for our local economy.”
WHO: Niagara County Legislature.
WHAT: Funding proposed Wallenda helicopter spectacular in Niagara Falls planned to commemorate five-year anniversary of June 2012 Wallenda high-wire walk over Niagara Falls.
WHEN: Tuesday, May 16, at 7 p.m.
WHERE: Niagara County Courthouse Legislative Chambers, 175 Hawley St., Lockport.
