Duane A. “Stew” Schoelles of the Town of Niagara, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2017. He was born in Lockport, NY,  on March 4, 1931, the son of the late Albert W. and Ada [Hoover] Schoelles.

He grew up in Sanborn and served with the US Navy. Mr. Schoelles was employed at Schoelles Lumber and with various businesses in the area, before working with US Security, before retiring in 2016.

He was an exempt  member of the Sanborn Fire Company and the Sanborn Fire Co. Band.   Mr. Schoelles enjoyed spending time with his family.

He was the husband of the late Barbara [Hansen] Schoelles, who passed away in 2003. Mr. Schoelles is survived by four sons Michael  (Georgia), Timothy, Randall and Douglas (Sandra) Schoelles, six daughters Brenda (late Ronald) Daigler,  Debra (Dave Cuddy) Manera, Sandy (Donald) Leffler, Loreen and Judy Schoelles and Patti (Roy) Belling, also nineteen grandchildren and fourteen and one half great grandchildren.

His family will be present on Monday from 2-4 & 7-8:30 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY, where the Sanborn Fire Co. will have a service at 8:15 PM, followed by the funeral service at 8:30 PM, with the Rev. Matthew Kofahl officiating.

Mr. Schoelles donated his body to the University of Buffalo School of Medicine.
