BUFFALO — Junior right-handed pitcher Shawn Dubin was named Mid-American Conference East division Pitcher of the Week for the second straight week on Monday night, as announced by the conference office. This marks the first time a Buffalo pitcher has won the weekly honor in back-to-back weeks since 2000.
Dubin had the best performance of his career on Sunday in his team-best fifth victory of the seasons as he didn’t allow a run over six innings of work as UB downed Miami 1-0. The junior was absolutely dominant on the mound as he was able to go 6.0 innings while allowing just three hits, no runs and fanned a career-best 11 batters. He was able to strikeout seven straight batters between the first and third innings while also finishing off his day retiring six straight RedHawks batters.
Dubin has been truly dominant over his last two starts on the mound for the Bulls, both of which were victories for the righty. He owns a perfect 2-0 record with a 0.00 ERA as he has allowed just seven hits, no runs and fanned 20 batters through 13 innings of work. The 20 strikeouts over his last two games are the most over a two-game span for a Buffalo pitcher since reinstatement in 2000.
On the season, the Allegany, NY native owns a team-best record of 5-2 to go along with a 5.10 ERA. Over 60.0 innings of work, Dubin has fanned a team-high 61 batters while holding his opponents to a .276 batting average against and serving up just one home run on the season. His 12 starts on the mound for the Bulls this season are a team-high and career-high for the junior.
The Bulls will return to MAC play this Friday at 3:00 pm as they welcome the Ohio Bobcats to Amherst Audobon Field for a critical three-game series. As things stand today, the Bulls are in the MAC Tournament field with just six MAC games remaining.
