NIAGARA UNIVERSITY ATHLETICS

• The Purple Eagles split a series with the Lafayette Leopards May 6-7. The Leopards won the first game, 8-7, in extra innings and Niagara earned a dominant 14-5 in game two.

• Sophomore Greg Cullen leads the Purple Eagles at the plate with 56 hits. He is batting .361. He also has 29 RBI and 25 runs scored.
• Junior outfielder Tanner Kirwer leads the team in runs scored with 40, doubles with 19 and stolen bases with 17.
• Peter Battaglia, the freshman first baseman, has a team-high 42 RBI and he and Joel Brophy lead the team in homeruns with three each.
• On the mound, redshirt-junior Cody Eckerson (4-2) has struck out 40 batters in 45.0 innings pitched. His 2.00 ERA is the best of Niagara’s starting pitching rotation.
• Freshman Matthew Brash (5-0) remains undefeated on the mound. He has fanned 55 in 65.0 innings pitched.
• Daniel Procopio (6-2) leads the pitching staff in strikeouts with 66 and he has held opposing batters to an impressive .189 average.

• Redshirt-junior infielder Ben Haefner leads the Bulls with 32 runs scored and 54 hits.
• Vinny Mallaro, a senior outfielder, has a team-high 46 RBI, 12 doubles and seven homeruns.
• Junior Shawn Dublin (5-2) leads the Buffalo pitching staff with 61 strikeouts in 60.0 innings pitched. He has an ERA of 5.10.
• Junior Charlie Sobieraski (2-8) has pitched a staff-high 64.2 innings and has fanned 49.

• The Purple Eagles host their final home series of the regular season when they welcome the Siena Saints to Bobo Field May 11-12. The teams will play a doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 11 and a single game starting at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, May 12. The team’s graduating seniors will be honored before Friday’s game.
