The Canisius outdoor track team completed day two of the 2017 MAAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships Sunday afternoon from Rider University in Lawrenceville, N.J., gaining one second and one third place finish for the day.
In the men’s 4×800 meter relay, the team of sophomores Josh Sopchak and Paul Henry, freshman Marcus Brown and senior Cooper Roach finished third in 7:48.06. In the women’s 4×800, junior Carlin Sullivan, senior Haley Keene, sophomore Siobhan Quinn and junior Haylie Virginia finished sixth with a time of 9:37.58.
Roach continued his strong individual running in day two of competition, placing second in the 1500-meter run in a time of 3:54.96. In the women’s 1500-meter run, Quinn also performed well, ending in fourth place with a time of 4:38.94 in the finals event.
Junior Carlin Sullivan placed 10th in the women’s 1500 meter at 4:45.18, while senior Xavier Sauvageau cracked the top-ten in the men’s event, running to a ninth place finish of 4:00.72

“We closed out the meet with a great team effort on the second day. Many of our runners came back to run a second and third event in the relays to help score valuable team points. As a result, the men had their highest point total and team finish in recent history and the women knocked off Niagara.”
The Griffs will compete in their final weekend of completion next Friday, when they run in both the ECAC/IC4A Championship and the Gator Last Chance Invite.
