Elizabeth Jeanne Burns entered into rest on Saturday, April 29, 2017. She was born in Middleport, NY on March 21, 1925, the daughter of the late Martin and Clara (Limebeck) Brown.

Elizabeth enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps during WWII and served in a medical unit. She held many jobs after that until she found a career as a Corrections Officer at the Correctional Facility in Albion. She retired after 25 years of service.

In her later years, Jeanne (as most know her by) was a voracious reader, scrabble player, and jigsaw puzzler. She learned how to use a computer when she was in her 80’s, and kept close watch on current politics, never hesitant to voice her opinion to whomever would engage in the discussion. But everyone knew she was happiest when in the company of her large and loving family.

She was predeceased by her husband, Daniel Leo Burns, her daughter Peggy (Lynn) Andrews, and her grandson, Michael Burrows. She is survived by five daughters and a son; Becky Burns, Catherine Burns, Patricia (Michael, deceased) Werth, Barbara Burns, Mary Susan (James) Anderson, and Daniel James Burns. She was Grandmother to 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She was the youngest of six children and was an Aunt to her many nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth donated her body to the State University of New York at Buffalo’s Medical School.
The family will be present on Friday May 5, 2017 from 4:00-7:00 PM at the Bates, Wallace, and Heath funeral home to receive friends. The Clute-Phillips American Legion Post #938 prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM followed by the family sharing memories.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Royalton Hartland Community Library are gratefully appreciated by the family. Please share condolences www.bateswallace.com.
