The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch throughout Western New York through 10 p.m.

Additionally, the weather service has issued a flood watch throughout Western New York through midnight.

Both watches indicate a potential for the named hazard, meaning there is potential for a tornado and flooding throughout the entirety of Western New York. According to the weather service, this is due to a cold front crossing eastern Ohio early this afternoon that will plow across Western New York later this afternoon and evening. This front will generate more showers along with the strong likelihood of strong to severe thunderstorms.

Winds aloft will be dangerously favorable for any thunderstorm to contain damaging winds of 70 mph or greater.

The severe weather potential will be greatest between 3 and 6 p.m. for the far western counties and between 5 and 7 p.m. for Monroe County and points east.
