BUFFALO HEALTHY LIVING

Hundreds of individuals, employers and health care providers in Western New York, and thousands across the state, have forgotten about $2.66 million in checks sent by Univera Healthcare and its parent. These checks were issued in 2013 and never cashed. If the funds aren’t claimed by the end of August, Univera is required to turn the money over to New York State. A list of people and companies with checks to claim is online at univerahealthcare.com/unclaimedfunds.

“This is money that was paid for claims or refunded premiums,” said Art Wingerter, Univera Healthcare’s president. “We want to make sure that our members and providers have one more chance to claim it.”

WNY total dollars, by county…

Allegany……….$15,358
Cattaraugus…….$11,688
Chautauqua…….$36,814
Erie……………$157,628
Genesee………..$24,829
Niagara…………$55,000
Orleans…………..$6,257
Wyoming………..$9,775

Checks may not have been cashed for a number of reasons. The member may have moved and not left a forwarding address, a member may have died, or the member may have misplaced the check.

To claim a check prior to August 31, do one of the following steps. By email, contact Univera Healthcare Customer Care or Provider Services. By phone, if you are currently a health plan member, call the Customer Care phone number on your member identification card. If you are no longer a health plan member, or if you are calling on behalf of the estate of a family member, call Univera Healthcare at 1-800-499-1275.

Checks will not be mailed to claimants until after Aug. 31.
