BUFFALO — BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York is encouraging members and employees to take a healthy walk during their lunch break today for National Walk@Lunch Day.

Over 62 companies and their 20,000+ employees spanning Western New York have already committed and will join other companies countrywide in this initiative.

Studies have found that regular walking can substantially reduce the risk of developing cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and Type 2 diabetes; improve muscle, bone and joint health; maintain a healthy weight; lead to better sleep; and provide a mental boost. The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) recommends setting a goal of at least 30 minutes of physical activity per day.

Participants can share their photos by tagging @BCBSWNY or with the hashtag #NWALD.
