Canisius golfer David Hanes continued his strong play on Saturday, as the freshman shot a two-over par score of 74 to move into a tie for fifth place after two rounds at the 2017 MAAC Golf Championship in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
As a team, the Golden Griffins recorded a score of 318 on Saturday. Canisius’ two-round tally of 638 has the Blue and Gold in ninth place, three strokes back of long-time rival Niagara.
Hanes, who started off the 10th tee at Disney’s Magnolia Course, went out in 39, but he played his final nine holes one-under par, highlighted by birdies on the par-4 second hole and the par-5 fourth hole. His 74 kept him within striking distance for Sunday, as he will start the final round just five shots back.
Siena’s Jake Holt is the leader after 36 holes. Holt shot a 71 on Saturday and leads the individual portion of the tournament with a two-round tally of 145. As a team, Siena is also in the lead. The Saints have a seven-stroke lead over Saint Peter’s heading into Sunday’s action.
The third and final round of the 2017 MAAC Golf Championship will teet off Sunday at 7:30 a.m.
