The Canisius rowing program hosts the Black Rock Cup on Saturday, welcoming a bevy competitors, including MAAC opponents Jacksonville, Marist, and Fairfield, at Westside Rowing Club. The jam-packed morning will begin at 9 a.m., with the Griffs first race starting at 9:10 and going through the noon-hour.

“We have been anticipating this home regatta for a long time, and these kids are buzzing to race, especially our toughest conference rivals,” head coach Erin Neppel said. “We have not had many chances to show our speed this spring, and what better opportunity than to be in Buffalo, with our friends, families and alumni present.

Canisius is coming off an off-week, looking to continue its trend from the previous weekend, where the squad had all three of its boats, advance for the first time in program history, at the coveted Knecht Cup.

The varsity eight, second varsity eight, and varsity four, all advanced through the heat stage, to compete in the semifinals, and while the boats failed to advance into the grand finals, the team’s look to build on a confidence-building weekend.

“We have talked so much about what we need to do to assert ourselves, and the bottom line has to be to just do the thing,” Neppel said.
