The two teams continued to trade goals back and forth, with the score tied, 3-3, six minutes into the opening half. Oneonta started to pull away, getting four unanswered goals to retake a 7-3 lead halfway through the first. Buffalo State responded right back, scoring the next two to make it 7-5. The Red Dragons struck again, pushing their lead to 8-5 before the Bengals roared back. Buffalo State scored five unanswered goals to retake a 10-8 lead with 1:55 left in the first. Oneonta answered back with three unanswered goals of their own, including a tally with just a second left in the first to take an 11-10 lead into halftime.
It was all Oneonta in the second half, as the Red Dragons outscored the Bengals 11-4. Buffalo State would get it as close as 12-11 three minutes into the half, but the Red Dragons went on a 10-3 run over the game’s final 27 minutes to escape Buffalo with a 22-14 victory.
Buffalo State will be at home again this Tuesday for a SUNYAC contest against Oswego at 4 p.m. at Coyer Field.
