MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Tyson Gibson scored two goals and added four assists to lead Robert Morris to a 12-7 victory over visiting Canisius in collegiate men’s lacrosse action Tuesday at Joe Walton Stadium.

Gibson’s six-point effort highlighted a balanced Colonials (9-4) attack that saw four players finish with multiple goals. Matt Schmidt recorded a hat trick while Trey Arnold and Adrian Torok-Orban notched two goals each. Alex Heger posted 11 saves between the pipes for Robert Morris.

Juniors Ryan McKee and Eric Gold recorded two goals each for the Griffs (5-7). Senior Jeff Edwards, junior Connor Kearnan and freshman Carter Stefaniak also scored for the Blue and Gold. Junior keeper Liam Ganzhorn made 10 saves for Canisius.

Kearnan staked Canisius to an early 1-0 lead before Robert Morris rattled off four unanswered goals from four different goal scorers to grab a 4-1 advantage early in the second quarter.

McKee temporarily halted the Colonials momentum when he trimmed the Griffs deficit to 4-2 with a goal at the 8:29 mark of the second quarter, but Robert Morris regained control once again as it took advantage of a second four-goal outburst to build an 8-2 cushion.

A goal from Gold before halftime and a strike from Stefaniak early in the third offset a goal from Robert Morris to pull the Griffs to within five, 9-4.

The Colonials responded to the Canisius charge, however, netting back-to-back goals to take its largest lead of the game, 11-4, with a little more than three minutes to play in the third.

Canisius opened the fourth quarter with tallies from Edwards and Gold to trim the Robert Morris margin to five, 11-6. The teams traded goals over the nine minutes of the contest to determine the final margin.

Canisius returns its focus to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference race Friday when it travels to New Jersey for a 7 p.m. contest at league-leading Monmouth. The matchup between the Griffs and Hawks will be shown live on ESPN3.
