BUFFALO — Buffalo State jumped out to a quick lead, but in the end it wasn’t enough as No. 19 Brockport picked up an 18-9 victory this evening in a SUNYAC contest at Coyer Field.
Alanna Herne (Tonawanda/Tonawanda) led the way for the Bengals, finishing with a team-high four goals to go with two assists. Christina Krowel (Amsterdam/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake), Cassie Saint-Vil (Middletown/Middletown), Morgan Hogue (Painted Post/Corning), Nina Schaefer (Lafayette/Lafayette) and Jackie Dufresne (Lake View/Frontier) all scored one goal apiece for Buffalo State. Hogue added two assists, while Saint-Vil chipped in one. The Bengals got on the board first as Schaefer scored just 1:10 in the game to give the Bengals a 1-0 lead. Brockport responded a little more than three minutes later with a goal of its own to tie the game at 1. After the Bengals’ opening tally, the Golden Eagles went on to score six unanswered goals to take a 6-1 lead. Buffalo State got it as close as 6-3 halfway through the first, but Brockport closed out the opening half strong and took a 10-4 lead into halftime. The Golden Eagles never looked back, as they scored three unanswered goals to open the second, en route to their 18-9 win.
Buffalo State will be at home again this Saturday, as the Bengals host conference foe Oneonta at 1 p.m. at Coyer Field.
