BUFFALO — The University at Buffalo baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to Canisius at the Demske Sports Complex on Tuesday afternoon. The Golden Griffins won game one, 6-5, and game two, 13-5.

The Bulls dropped game one in heartbreaking fashion, allowing a two-run walk-off home run. After falling behind, 3-0, in the first inning, an RBI double by Vinny Mallaro and an RBI single by Connor Regan cut the lead to 3-2 in the top of the fourth. Back-to-back RBI singles by Chris Kwitzer and Kyle Brennan put the Bulls ahead, 4-3, in the top of the fifth.

Kwitzer added another RBI single in the top of the seventh inning to extend the Buffalo lead to 5-3. However, the Griffs rallied and scored three runs, all with two outs, in the bottom of the seventh inning, including a two-run homer by Ryan Stekl for the walk-off win.

An eight-run second inning set the tone for the Griffs in game two. The Bulls cut into the lead with three runs in the top of the third. Consecutive bases-loaded walks by Alex Thrower and Brian Dudek followed by an RBI by Mallaro accounted for the scoring in the inning.

After Canisius extended its lead to 13-3, UB got back-to-back solo home runs by Kwitzer and Brennan to cap the Bulls’ scoring.

Kwitzer finshed the doubleheader 3-for-5 with a home run and a pair of RBIs for the Bulls.

The losses dropped Buffalo to 10-19 on the season. The Bulls will return to conference action with a three-game series at Toledo beginning on Friday.
