AAA Western and Central New York finds that warmer climates are drawing travelers from across the region for Easter trips. The weeks before and after Easter are always popular time periods for family getaways.

A survey conducted by AAA earlier this year showed that 42 percent of Americans are planning to take a vacation in 2017 – with most planning trips to warm weather destinations – and it’s proving to be true.

AAA WCNY has seen a significant increase in TripTik requests for planning road trips. Gas prices are higher than last year, but remain stable, so driving is an economical alternative to flying to your destination, especially when traveling with a large family.

The top destinations for Easter vacations driver from Western and Central New York are (in alphabetical order):

  • Florida (Disney)
  • Myrtle Beach, SC
  • Outer Banks, NC
  • Virginia
  • Washington, D.C.

For those flying the top spots include:

  • Aruba
  • Cruises
  • Dominican Republic
  • Florida
  • Mayan Riviera/Cancun

For those flying to destinations, always be mindful of TSA regulations when flying to make your travel experience as smooth as possible. Arrive at least 90 minutes prior to departure and check flight status with airlines ahead of time. The usual TSA guidelines apply: don’t wear a lot of jewelry; limit the amount of liquids you have and follow the 3-1- 1 rule; and ensure travel documents are easily accessible.

Before setting out on a vacation, AAA suggests that travelers contact their local AAA office for expert advice, personalized service and first-hand destination knowledge to create a memorable vacation experience.
