LEWISTON – Green-themed sculptures, gardening tips, recycling, renewable energy and more will be part of the Every Day is Earth Day event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 29, at the Niagara Power Vista, the admission-free visitor center for the New York Power Authority’s Niagara Power Project.

Artistic adults and children are invited to create their own sculptures and enter them into an Earth Day contest. Be as creative and imaginative as possible and draw inspiration from the world around you!

Sculptures should be made with recyclable materials and can be brought to the event for display starting April 24. They can also be delivered the day of the event. Science prizes will be awarded in various categories. Buffalo fine arts sculptor Lawrence Kinney will judge the entries starting at 3 p.m. Anyone interested in submitting a sculpture should call (716) 286-6661 or email npvista@nypa.gov for an entry form.

Visitors can also experience the Buffalo Zoomobile from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; decorate pots and plant seeds with the Cayuga Island Garden Club; create garden pet rocks and Earth Day Zentangle posters with the University Heights Arts Association; try face painting; and participate in other activities.

Conservation exhibitors include Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve and the WNY Stormwater Coalition/Erie County Department of Environmental Protection. Niagara University will be handing out seedlings while supplies last.

The event includes free rides on the Niagara Scenic Trolley between the Power Vista and Gorge Discovery Center and a hands-on craft table courtesy of the New York State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.

Visitors can also enjoy the many interactive exhibits at the Power Vista, including taking a simulated ride across the state’s transmission lines, building a grid system on the multi-touch one-of-a-kind transmission grid table, sending more or reducing power across the state based on weather conditions, simulating operation of the Niagara Power Plant and more.

Parking and admission at the Power Vista, located at 5777 Lewiston Road, Lewiston, are always free.
