MERCER, NJ – The University at Buffalo women’s rowing team competed at the Knecht Cup in New Jersey over the weekend. High winds made for tough conditions and forced some changes to the schedule.

The Bulls had four boats competing in the event and all four boats advanced to the semifinals with three advancing the finals.

The Novice 8 boat advanced to Sunday’s Grand Final where it finished sixth with a time of 7:26.25. The Novice 8 boat was made up of Dana Cowley, Maria Chinnici, Veronica Trzeciak, Sydney Jones, Eden Griger, Rebecca Rozeski, Mackenzie Junjulas, Sara Lesold and Dowlette Alam El Din.

The Second Varsity 8 boat advanced to the Third Final and posted a second place finish. The Bulls edged out SMU and Marist by less than one second for the high finish. The 2V8 boat was made up of Caeleigh Heavey, Maddie Sheffield, Ankita Kelkar, Elizabeth Shilling, Jillian Michael, Natalie Howk, Isabella Goldberg, Hayley Nieves and Rylee James.

The third boat to advance to the finals was the Varsity 8 which advanced to the Third Finals. The boat, consisting of Ally Mayo, Elle Good, Anna Sviripa, Maddy Saporito, Erin O’Connell, Emma Napper, Paige Krohn, Sarah Brill and Abbie Albright, finished sixth with a time of 7:11.99.

Elsewhere, the Varsity 4 boat of Marissa Scaduto, Dania Abul-Enin, Stephanie Busha, Alexa Hillis and Victoria Nehls advanced to the semifinals where they finished seventh with a time of 8:25.11.

The Bulls will next compete at the George Mason Invitational on April 23.
