ROCHESTER – Several Purple Eagles had decent showings at the 2017 ROC City Classic hosted by Nazareth College with Mara Skordynski and Morgan Palmer each placing multiple top-10 finishes in their respective individual events.

Morgan Palmer continued her strong freshman campaign with two top-10 finishes. Palmer claimed first place in the discus throw, out-throwing the field with a 40.09m toss in her second attempt. Palmer set a personal record in the shot put in her second toss. Her tossed went 11.58m, which was fourth best on the day. Maggie Gerard had a ninth placed finish (33.47m) in the discus throw and finished sixth with a distance of 11.31min the shot put.

Mara Skordynski’s personal best time of 26.51 placed her 14th in the 200m. Kelly Nichols followed in 17th place (26.66) and Akira Thornton in 20th (26.76). Skordynski placed seventh place in the 400 dash with a time of 1:00.70. Alex Laubert set a school record time in the 100m hurdles, running the event in 16.03 for a seventh place finish. Mallory Ronan ran a collegiate best time of 20:34.41 in the 5k. In the 400 hurdles, Nicole Torres led NU with a 12th place finished (1:10.99) and Casey Leader was in 14th (1:12.57). In the 100m dash, Akira Thornton led Niagara with a time of 13.01 to finish in 17th place. Lilly Lupinetti had a personal best time of 13.15. The team of Skordynski, Leader, Nicole Torres and Kayla Murphy finished ninth in the 1600m relay with a time of 4:22.06. Megan Helf led Niagara with a personal best time of 5:23.96 in the 1500m

The Purple Eagles are back in action on April 22 at the Wolfie Invitational hosted by Stony Brook University.
